Work platform for aircraft maintenance presented at MRO Europe 2025
At MRO Europe 2025 in London 15 – 16 October, Hubtex will present its new, electrically powered EPL platform for aircraft maintenance and assembly. The work and assembly platform has an omnidirectional multi-way chassis. It positions service personnel and tools precisely on the aircraft while ensuring a high level of collision protection through its assistance systems. In times of increasing demand in aircraft construction, it is an essential tool for efficient processes.
The use of variably adjustable work platforms in aircraft maintenance presents distinct challenges. They must be able to be positioned flexibly in confined spaces and allow safe access to different aircraft types. The platform design must enable access to all areas of an aircraft, such as the upper wing surface or the tail unit. Effective protection of aircraft structures is equally crucial: Delicate surfaces such as wings, fuselage or engines must not be damaged. It is essential for operators that platforms are easy to handle, while also ensuring reliable access and fall protection.
Hubtex addresses precisely these requirements with its work platforms. Due to the omnidirectional multi-way steering system, precise positioning on the aircraft is assured and no lengthy maneuovring is required. “What sets Hubtex apart from other manufacturers is our ability to offer solutions beyond standard platforms,” says Michael Röbig, head of Product Management at Hubtex. “EPL type platform solutions can be finely tuned to meet the demands of aircraft maintenance. Thanks to their diverse options for incorporating collision protection systems, users can work extremely accurately in confined spaces without risking damage to sensitive components.”
Vehicles with a scissor lift system form the basis. These can be supplemented with a telescopic platform for access to the top of the wing if needed. Alternatively, lifting via mast lifts is possible when a very low platform height is required.
The EPL series offers numerous options for precise integration into the specific task. Working heights range from 4.5 to 17.5m, with load capacities from 250 to 2000kg. This enables multiple users and their tools to work safely and comfortably. Various operating concepts are available, whether from the driver’s cab or via remote control. To retain a high level of flexibility, the vehicles can be equipped with lithium-ion batteries as well as lead-acid battery, optionally with on-board chargers.
A notable feature of the EPL platforms is their comprehensive collision protection: Depending on specific requirements, Hubtex integrates various sensors such as ultrasonic sensors, Lidar and 360deg cameras to scan the environment and alert operators, along with automatic braking and height restrictions to prevent collisions with sensitive parts. In addition, systems for load monitoring and vibration reduction ensure a stable working environment.
