DLM sponsors Southampton boxer, Ryan Garner

The Dynamic Load Monitoring (UK) Ltd (DLM) logo was splashed on the Southampton Football Club-coloured shorts of British and Commonwealth super-featherweight champion boxer, Ryan Garner, when he stepped into the ring in Ireland on 14 March.

Garner, an avid Saints fan, has a potential world title fight lined up at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium in the summer. First, he successfully defended his perfect 18-0 record at Dublin’s 3 Arena.

Martin Halford, managing director at DLM, said, “Ryan is from the area and has been involved in a lot of positive work with the local community. We wanted to take an opportunity to support the fighter and associate our name with a Southampton hero as he eyes-up what would be a blockbuster showdown under summer skies at our beloved St. Mary’s.

Ryan has already achieved a lot over the past few years and sponsoring him for last weekend’s fight is our way of showing appreciation for the effort, courage and ringcraft required to be successful in his sport at the highest level.”

Garner, nicknamed The Piranha, is promoted by Frank Warren, and is one of the prized assets of the renowned Queensberry stable; Warren has already acknowledged that a St Mary’s dream date is booked, likely in June.

Last summer, Garner added the British and Commonwealth super-featherweight titles to the European strap already around his waist (at the time), by stopping Reece Bellotti at Bournemouth International Centre in the 12th round. A flurry of heavy shots sent Bellotti reeling backwards early in the last round of a bout that The Piranha increasingly dominated. Referee Victor Loughlin had no choice but to step in, preventing Bellotti from hearing the final bell. Garner has since vacated his European belt.

Garner said, “I connected with DLM through LinkedIn and am grateful for their support at the start of what will hopefully be a landmark year in my career. A summer fight at St Mary’s is a massive deal. To be from the city and be the first fighter to headline a boxing event that puts Southampton on the map is a hugely exciting opportunity.”

Southampton-based DLM is a longtime supplier of load cells, load monitoring technology, and cable working equipment to the lifting, rigging, wind energy, and wider renewables sector. A serial backer of local sports, the company also sponsored an Under 7’s football team and continues to consider additional commercial partnerships.
