Eurogate orders Konecrane automated stacking cranes
Konecranes has received an order from Eurogate Terminal Solutions GmbH for four Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs) for Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) in Germany. The order was booked in Q3 2026, and the handover is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028. The agreement also includes an option for an additional four ASCs for Eurogate’s Container Terminal Hamburg.
The order supports Eurogate’s ongoing research and development efforts in terminal automation. The concept integrates the Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs) with terminal’s existing equipment to enable automated container transport. The project extends a long-standing relationship between Eurogate and Konecranes, which has supplied straddle carrier solutions to Eurogate’s German terminals for over five decades.
As part of its terminal automation strategy, Eurogate is adopting a supplier-agnostic approach in which terminal equipment suppliers integrate with the equipment control system (ECS). Konecranes was selected to provide Automated Stacking Cranes based on its proven in-house automation expertise and ability to fulfil operational and technical requirements.
“Konecranes has demonstrated a strong willingness to support ETS-MT in further developing our operations and accompanying us on our journey towards automated yard operations. With their proven, highly available crane concept, we are confident that we can meet our technological and operational demands,” said Axel Jachens, project manager of Eurogate Technical Services GmbH.
“Eurogate is an important customer for Konecranes, and as the industry moves toward increasingly automated operations, we are delighted to support Eurogate’s long-term development with solutions that combine proven automation technology, operational efficiency and openness to customer-specific system architectures,” said Lasse Merenheimo, vice president of Konecranes.
Konecranes Automated Stacking Cranes are designed for high-density container yard operations and are based on a globally standardized platform with more than 600 units delivered or in operation worldwide. The cranes feature Konecranes Active Load Control technology, which improves handling precision and stability through integrated load-sway prevention and positioning control. The in-house ASC automation design being delivered to Eurogate is also intended to support integration with complex terminal automation environments and multi-vendor operating systems.
Konecranes’ Path to Port Automation offers container terminals a comprehensive, step-by-step roadmap to full automation, improving the productivity and safety of their equipment, regardless of the brand, in manageable steps at their own pace.
