SC&RF launches ‘40 schools for 40 years’ Workforce Challenge
As it celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Foundation (SC&RF) is launching a new workforce initiative designed to invest in the future of the industry: the 40 Schools for 40 Years Workforce Challenge.
The challenge calls on SC&RA member companies to partner with local schools by visiting schools and classrooms or hosting field trips that introduce students to careers in crane, rigging, and specialized transportation. The goal is to reach 40 schools in 2026, creating meaningful connections between industry professionals and the local schools to raise awareness for careers in the industry and workforce challenges.
“For four decades, the SC&RF has supported this industry through hundreds of scholarships to individuals, nearly 40 industry-specific research reports, and workforce development activities,” said Kate Landry, president of SC&RF. “As we mark our 40th anniversary, we’re focusing on what comes next – building awareness and strengthening the workforce pipeline.”
Since its founding, SC&RF has awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships and invested close to $800,000 in industry research, releasing 39 research reports over the past 40 years. While workforce outreach has grown significantly over the last five years, the 40 Schools for 40 Years Challenge represents the SC&RF’s most coordinated effort yet to bring industry awareness directly to educators and into classrooms.
Through the 40 Schools for 40 Years Challenge, participating member companies receive a ready-to-use outreach kit, including presentations, career materials, videos, and giveaways to support school engagement. Schools that host a visit or field trip are also eligible for a $500 SC&RF Mini Grant, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to education and community impact.
“This industry and these careers are essential to the economy – to our infrastructure that supports our communities—from bridges and stadiums to energy and industrial projects,” said Kelan Bragg, SC&RF workforce committee chair. “This challenge helps students, parents, and educators see the opportunities that exist in a high-demand, high-impact industry.”
SC&RF estimates that workforce awareness efforts over the past several years have already reached thousands of students nationwide. With the 40 Schools for 40 Years Challenge, the Foundation aims to expand that reach exponentially by leveraging the collective involvement of SC&RA member companies.
The initiative aligns with SC&RF’s 40th anniversary theme, ‘Making Waves for Workforce,’ reflecting the Foundation’s ongoing mission to support the industry today while preparing for tomorrow.
