Green Pin seeks patent

Green Pin, part of the Van Beest group, is applying to patent its latest innovation – a unique shank hook for subsea operations.

The Green Pin ROV Pro Shank Hook is a grade 8 eye hook with a long shank, specifically designed for release and retrieval operations in subsea environments using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The hook features a wider opening and wider saddle making it ideal for handling larger lifting slings or attachments.

Green Pin is applying for a patent for the product’s innovative three-in-one functionality, which means it can be operated with an ROV manipulator or manually. This add-on enables the user to efficiently open, lock and unlock the safety latch, enhancing operational speed and safety.

“It is the first hook in the market to have this functionality,” said Anton van der Zalm, vice president corporate research & development at Van Beest BV. “We have applied for a patent, and it is pending.”

The hook is equipped with a tip extension, ensuring that the safety latch remains in place. This is designed to enhance safety while making aiming, steering, and hooking up more precise and efficient.

The design of the hook, combined with its smooth finish, minimizes wear on lifting slings. The white-coated hook and orange-painted slider improves underwater visibility, simplifying the process of grabbing and positioning the hook. It is now available in a range with a working load limit (WLL) from 12t up to 35t.

Anton showcased the shank hook during his presentation at the thought leadership conference on the first day of LiftEx.
